Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Substratiq, operated by Jasper Winkelmans ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Substratiq.

The service

Substratiq uses AI to turn text you provide — a chapter, a PDF, an article — into summaries, explanations, key ideas, flashcards, and answers to your questions about that text.

Your account

You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your login secure. You must be at least the age of digital consent in your country to use Substratiq.

Acceptable use

• Don't use Substratiq for anything illegal, harmful, or abusive.
• Don't submit content you don't have the right to use.
• Don't resell, scrape, or attempt to bypass the service's limits or security.
• Don't use results generated by Substratiq to train, fine-tune, distill, or otherwise develop any machine learning model or AI system, commercial or non-commercial. This is strictly forbidden.

AI output — important

Results are generated by AI and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Substratiq is a study and comprehension aid, not a source of professional, legal, medical, or financial advice. Always verify anything important against the original source. You use AI output at your own discretion.

Your content

You keep ownership of the text you submit and the results you generate. You grant us only the limited permission needed to process your text to provide the service (for example, sending it to our AI provider to produce your result). We don't claim ownership of your content and we don't use it to train models.

Subscriptions & billing

• Free tier: a limited number of distills per day at no cost — this is the taste of the product. There is no 7-day free Pro trial on paid plans.
• Substratiq Pro: €9.99 per month, billed through Stripe when you subscribe (payment starts with the subscription; no free trial period).
• Substratiq Power: higher tier for larger documents and heavier usage — see the in-app paywall for current pricing.
• Cancellation: you can stop future renewal by contacting supportdistill@gmail.com. After cancellation, paid access normally continues until the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds: we generally don't refund partial periods, but we're a small team and want you happy — if something went wrong, email supportdistill@gmail.com and we'll be reasonable.
• EU right of withdrawal: mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected. Visit the withdrawal request page; when the online function is enabled it provides an immediate durable acknowledgement, and until then the page gives the support route. Withdrawal is distinct from cancelling future renewal.

Price changes

We may change pricing or plan features. Any change applies to future billing periods, and we'll give reasonable notice.

Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms or abuse the service.

Disclaimers & liability

Substratiq is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability to you is limited, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing here limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Belgium, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections you have where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves; we'll update the date above and make significant changes clear.
